RECORDER REPORT

KARACHI: Executive Director of Afzaal Memorial Thalassemia Foundation (AMTF), Ateequr Rehman, emphasized the need for making pre-marriage thalassemia test mandatory to prevent the masses from this deadly and fatal disease.

He congratulated Imran Ismail, Syed Murad Ali Shah and Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho over becoming Sindh’s Governor, Chief Minister and Health Minister, respectively.

He urged them to work enthusiastically for eradication of Thalassemia from Sindh and its advocacy.

“There is a dire need to have blood bank data for collection of blood through repeated donations from regular donors and also by new donors to ensure blood stocks at blood banks,” he stressed, asking the Sindh government to sincerely patronage such efforts in order to avoid blood shortage during emergencies in hospitals and for the children suffering from thalassemia.

AMTF chief emphasized that the government of Sindh should promote the community values of blood donation, enhancing community solidarity and encouraging people to care for one another.

He called for promoting awareness that blood donation is a philanthropic action that benefits all of society and that an adequate supply can only be ensured through regular donations by voluntary unpaid donors.
