RECORDER REPORT

KARACHI: Association of Builders and Developers of Pakistan (ABAD) and Pakistan Tax Bar Association (PTBA) on Friday requested the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to extend the last date of e-filing of income tax returns.

In separate letters sent to the chairman FBR, both associations have requested the FBR to extend the last date of e-filing of income tax returns.

The PTBA said that reasonable time was not granted as provided under the law i.e. section 118(2) of the Ordinance for filing/e-filing of the tax returns and statement under section 115(4) of the Ordinance along with wealth statement form for the taxpayers fall under the FTR and salaries class.

Furthermore, the Ashura holidays also considerably affected the pace of work on preparation of tax returns. It said that the prescribed time available under the ordinance to prepare and file/e-file the tax return, statement of final tax and wealth statement have not been provided hence it is not only impossible for them to complete the task, but also termed illegal and unjustified as per

the provisions of the ordinance.

Keeping the said in view, the board has requested to extend the date for filing of tax returns and statements under section 118(3)(a) and in case of others under section 118(3)(b) up to November 16, 2018 (three months from the date of notification) to maximise the number of filers and to facilitate the existing taxpayers of the country.

Meanwhile, ABAD was of the view that taxpayers were facing immense difficulties to get familiar with IRIS ADX software and remained unable to submit returns. Chairman ABAD also expressed concern over the insertion of section 182A and termed it as unjustified for genuine taxpayers.
