RECORDER REPORT

KARACHI: A policeman was shot dead by unknown armed men here in New Karachi vicinity of the metropolis on Monday.

SHO New Karachi police station Majid Rafique told Business Recorder that the deceased was identified as 38-year-old Ahmed Abbas who was presently serving duty at the New Karachi police station.

He said the deceased was on the way to his home along with his father by an auto rickshaw to withdraw his pension money as they reached New Karachi Sector 11; two armed assailants came and fired a single bullet to his chest, and fled the scene leaving him in a pool of blood. The victim succumbed to his injuries due to massive bleeding.

The police have been unable to assign a motive for the murder. However, “It doesn’t seem to be a sectarian killing” because the victim’s father who was also present in that auto at the time of incident is safe. Police will investigate the case after the funeral prayers of the deceased, the SHO said.

“A 30-bore pistol was used in the killing” he said.

Meanwhile the media reports suggested that a banned organization Hizbul Ahrar an offshoot of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has claimed the responsibility of incident, however, the SHO was clueless about it.
