FAISALABAD: Acting President Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI), Mian Tanveer Ahmed has said that focus of present government and Supreme Court on Basha and Mohmand dams is a positive sign but work on more dams including Chiniot dam should be started immediately to overcome the acute shortage of water for drinking as well as for irrigation purposes.

In a statement issued here Wednesday, he paid best tribute to Chaudhary Ghulam Sarwar former President Faisalabad Chemist Association who has played an instrumental role in waging a full-fledged movement for Chiniot dam for the last one decade.

He said that Pakistan is heading towards becoming a water stressed country and Chief Justice Saqib Nisar has to take Suo Moto action to avert any drought like condition in the country. He told that India has already deprived Pakistan from the water benefits of river Sutlej, Bias and Ravi by constructing dam on these rivers. He said that India was now planning to control in flow of water through river Jhelum and Chenab.

“In order to avoid this situation, we must build a dam at river Chenab to save Pakistan from water aggression by India,” he said and feared that India may control water inflow by building dams on these rivers to create water shortage when sowing season starts in Pakistan and release excessive water to create a flood like situation when water is least required.
