RECORDER REPORT

LAHORE: Director General National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Lahore, Maj Salim Shahzad (retd) said on Thursday that the Bureau has deposited over Rs 6 billion to the national exchequer so far and recovered another Rs 5 billion from the housing societies under the option of plea bargain.

He was speaking at a function in connection with the Anti-Corruption Day at Alhamra Hall.

He said it is not easy to control white collar crime as the corrupt elements do not leave any proof.

He said they will tell fake stories after their release from the NAB custody. Also, he added, the corrupt elements do not like to be inquired about their wrongdoings. But they would have to be answerable for their corruption, he stressed.

He further added that the corrupt elements were busy in criticizing both the Chairman and DG NAB to hide their corruption.

Some of them term NAB prison as a torture cell while those having been handcuffed plead for not sending them to jail, he added.

According to him, the NAB is alive to corrupt practices while other institutions are in deep slumber therefore they have no option but to hold everyone accountable.
