RECORDER REPORT

KARACHI: The Mayor of British coastal town Seaford Nazish Adil Tuesday called on Karachi Mayor at the latter's office.

"It is a pleasure for me to visit Pakistan and also Karachi's old city area. Specially, Saddar looked beautiful after removal of encroachments and traffic flow also got better here," she shared her views, talking to Karachi Mayor.

Mayor Nazish said that local bodies in Britain are much powerful and considered policy-making institution at local level.

She said that the post of Mayor is honorary there; however, bureaucracy is under the mayor and always follows mayoral orders.

The government resources are disbursed under a legal procedure and there is no concept of corruption in that society, she said.

The Seaford mayor informed that she is the only Pakistani in that British town and there are only three Asians in the whole council out of which two are from Bangladesh.

She said she got her early education in Pakistan and then shifted to Brighton and got the honour due to her social works in British society.

Mayor Waseem Akhtar said it was good to see that a Pakistani woman was elected mayor of an important town in Britain. He said he welcomed her.

He said progress in Britain was due to a powerful local government system where mayor and local bodies have powers at local level and Pakistan should also follow that procedure for progress and development.
