KARACHI: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and Health Department Sindh have joined hands to control dengue fever and elimination of its virus.

In the initial phase, focal persons would be nominated besides setting up of dengue control cells in 14 major KMC-run hospitals, whereas focal persons would also work at the district level.

The decision came at a meeting held in the office of the Metropolitan Commissioner Dr Syed Saif-ur-Rehman on Thursday which was attended by the program manager of provincial health department Dr Mehmood Iqbal Memon and others.

In order to ensure effective coordination among these focal persons and departments meetings will be held on regular basis, besides launching public awareness campaign in this connection.

The dengue control cells would work almost round the year particularly in rainy season and in winter.

He said that patients will be registered in hospitals and the provincial health department be kept informed on this.

Saif-ur-Rehman said that it was essential that immediate diagnosis was done as this is the only way to save the life of patient.

He said KMC would carry out awareness campaign to protect the citizen from this virus.

It was also informed in the meeting that every year about two thousand people affected with dengue fever got necessary treatment and recovered too.

Effective coordination between KMC and health department Sindh will further bring considerable decrease in the number of deaths due to dengue fever.
