PESHAWAR: Peshawar High Court (PHC) has dismissed a senior civil judge from service on charges of misuse of powers.

Three district and sessions judges have also been demoted and pensions of three former judges have been suspended on similar charges. The show cause notice issued to another judge has been taken back as allegations against him could not be proved.

According to notifications issued by the registrar of the Peshawar High Court (PHC), the action against the judges was taken in the light of the recommendations of the inquiry committee.

Complaints were received against these judges over alleged misuse of powers and misconduct. The inquiry committee had presented its recommendations after scrutiny of all the evidences and recording statements of all the parties.

According to the notifications, Senior Civil Judge Asghar Ali Salarzai has been dismissed from service after charges of were proven against him.

Similarly, charges against District and Sessions Judges Sofia Waqar Khattak, Khursheed Iqbal and Muhammad Aamir Nazir were proven in the inquiry committee and they were demoted from their positions to additional district and sessions judges.

The notification further said that charges against District and Sessions former Judge Subhan Sher have been proven. Therefore, his pension has been withheld for six months. Similarly, the pension of former Judge Muhammad Saleem Khan has been suspended for five years and pension of District and Sessions former Judge Hayat Ali Shah has been suspended for two years after charges of misconduct were proven against them.

According to another notification, charges against District and Sessions Judge Aqeel Aajiz could not be proved. Therefore, the show cause notice issued to him was taken back and he was exonerated from all charges.

The PHC had also dismissed two judges of the district judiciary from services on charges of misconduct last month.

As per the notifications issued by registrar, disciplinary proceedings were initiated against Additional District and Sessions Judge Nasir Kamal Yousafzai and Civil Judge Tayyab Ali under the KP Government Servants (Efficiency and Discipline) Rules, 2011.

The notifications said accused officers were served with show cause notices and were also heard in person. After completion of inquiry, the charges in the show cause notices proved against the accused officers.
