KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar on Monday handed over medical equipments and other stuff worth around Rs100 million to medical superintendents of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation-run (KMC) hospitals.

Talking to media after the handover of equipments, Mayor said the purchase was made after nine years which will help improve the medical service delivery.

The civic body still needs monetary resources to equip these health facilities with medical equipments.

He said that medicines worth Rs140 million have also been procured whereas, major allocation in the budget have also been earmarked for health sector.

Sindh government has prime responsibility to ensure disbursement of salary to KMC employees before Eidul Azha. “I have requested the chief minister Sindh in this regard,” he said.

Mayor said the hospitals have been provided with this apparatus according to their requirements. KMC has limited resources however we have given priority to the health department in our preferences so these hospitals could perform better. He also appealed to well off people to cooperate with KMC in this connection.

Replying to a query he said that the civic body has to solve problems of stray dogs in the city. KMC can provide manpower but no money can be provided for purchase of vaccines. Health department of Sindh government should pay attention on this.
