KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 93,047 tonnes of cargo comprising 51,695 tonnes of import cargo and 41,352 tonnes of export cargo including 5,586 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Thursday.

The total import cargos of 51,695 tonnes comprised of 44,415 tonnes of containerised cargo; 2,230 tonnes of bulk cargo and 5,050 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargos of 41,352 tonnes comprised of 20,402 tonnes of containerised cargo; 14,450 tonnes of clinker and 6,500 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

As many as 5,586 containers comprising of 3,055 containers of import and 2,531 containers of export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The breakup of imported containers shows 980 of 20's and 950 of 40's loaded while 01 of 20's and 87 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 463 of 20's and 724 of 40's loaded containers while 210 of 20's and 205 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were five ships namely Coral Star, Smiley Lady, Liana, Ru Yi Song and HG Shanghai carrying containers, tanker and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There were four vessels TR Porthos, Seaspan Yangtze, Bhairavi and Grace carrying containers, tanker and clinker respectively currently at the berths.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 152,599 tonnes comprising of 88,537 tonnes of import cargo and 64,062 tonnes of export cargo including 4,101 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The total import cargo of 88,537 tonnes includes 10,000 tonnes of condensate; 52,431 tonnes of coal; 9,835 tonnes of palm oil; 16,300 tonnes of soyabean; 395 tonnes of project cargo and 9,576 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 64,062 tonnes includes 4,295 tonnes of rice and 59,767 tonnes of containerised cargo.

As many as 4,101 containers comprising of 504 containers import and 3,597 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

There were three ships namely MOL Gateway, Maersk Denver and APL New York carrying containers respectively sailed out to sea on Thursday morning, while two more ships namely Antartica and Yasa Aysen carrying crude oil and coal respectively are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of ten ships were occupied berths to load/offload containers, general cargo, rice, coal, soyabean and palm oil respectively at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

As many as ten vessels viz. Teno, Morgen Stand-1, African Kestrel, Marangas Asclepius, CSC Cyanele, BW Rhine, Maistros, Bei Hai, Stena Important and JS Fablous carrying containers, project cargo, cement, LNG, diesel oil and palm oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

There were three ships viz. Maersk Brooklyn, Teno and Marangas Asclepius carrying containers and LNG respectively expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal and Engro Elengy Terminal respectively on Thursday.

There was one ship namely Maersk Brooklyn carrying containers due to arrive on Thursday, while another ship namely CMA CGM Medea carrying containers is due to arrive on Friday.
