Former judge writes letter to UN criticising powerful countries

RECORDER REPORT

ISLAMABAD: The United Nations (UN) has received a letter from a former judge from Pakistan stating that the global outbreak of coronavirus is a reaction of nature against the conduct, action and behaviour of the powerful and strong countries towards small and weak countries.

This was said in a letter from Sheikh Riaz Ahmad, former chief justice of Pakistan, through Javed Iqbal Qazi (Advocate) chairman Tax Advisors Association of Pakistan, addressed to the UN secretary general.

It states, “Sir, most compelling reason for writing this letter for your consideration is coronavirus-19 spreading all over the world …from one corner to the other.”

“In my view this is a reaction of nature against the …cruelty, injustice of the powerful, strong countries towards small and weak countries,” the letter says.

“I, need not to remind you the plight of the people of Kashmir, who have been imprisoned in their homes in the pretext of curfew for the last 250 days. It is sheer, ruthless cruelty and brutality,” the former chief justice has stated.

He has also highlighted the plight of Palestinians in his letter.

“In a nutshell, the human beings have invited the wrath of Allah and the nature is now warning the world against the behavior of powerful nations and its rulers towards the weak,” he has written.

It is high time for the UN resources to become active towards ending injustice and cruelty of the powerful towards the poor and strife-stricken people, the former chief justice has urged in his letter. The United Nations came into being at the end of the Second World War, for saving the world from future wars and as a check against the powerful but it has miserably failed to provide justice and peace to the poor, the letter says.
