Arshad Jamal expresses reservations

RECORDER REPORT

KARACHI: Former vice president of FPCCI, Arshad Jamal on Thursday expressed reservations over irregularities in FPCCI’s business council’s elections.

In a letter sent to the secretary general FPCCI, Arshad said that memberships are allowed just on the submission of membership certificates but without authorisation of trade bodies, which are not in accordance with Article of FPCCI.

He said that members were representing the trade bodies but they didn’t have any authorisation from concerned trade bodies for the purpose and added that no one could apply as a candidate or for any post at FPCCI until or unless the concerned trade body authorised him/her through the Secretary General of concerned trade bodies on prescribed formats of FPCCI. He termed the authorisation of any person at any post of FPCCI without concern of referenced trade body was against the rights of member trade body of FPCCI.

Furthermore, he said that the basic role of business councils were to promote exports from Pakistan and to resolve the trade issues between the country and protect the Pakistani traders who were doing business abroad with concerned countries. However, this role has been neglected with regard to the memberships of different business councils.

He urged the secretary general FPCCI to constitute a committee under the supervision of Director General Trade Organisation, Ministry of Commerce, Islamabad, to scrutinise all nominations of members of the business councils and issue a fresh list of all nominations in accordance with law.
