LAHORE: Punjab Seed Council (PSC) on Monday approved 84 varieties of different agricultural commodities submitted both from the public and private sector including first ever locally developed variety of the fruit Avocado and locally developed hybrid maize seed.

“We are trying to develop local varieties of exotic fruits and vegetables in addition to Soybean edible oil crop,” Punjab Minister for Agriculture, Syed Hussain Jehanian Gardezi told newsmen after the 55th meeting of the Punjab Seed Council (PSC). The approved new varieties included 67 varieties of maize, millet, walnut, avocado and other fruits while 33 varieties of cotton were submitted for approval out of which 18 were approved.
