‘Israel is the tail that wags the dog’

“So how would you define international community?”

“International refers to global.”

“OK but as far as I can remember there has always been some dissension during discussions in the United Nations.”

“You mean general assembly because the Security Council’s (UNSC) consensus is…”

“Yeah UNSC permanent members have a veto power though a resolution, non-binding, can be passed by the UN General Assembly if the majority of members vote in its favour.”

“Kinda like our finance bill, which need I add is the reason for us being on the 24th International Monetary Fund programme at present, and being labelled as the perennial borrower, and…”

“So you reckon that a simple majority for the finance bill is not the right way to go, and like the constitutional amendment a two-third majority…”

“Shut up, that would mean the stakeholders would be continually on their feet to ensure the numbers….”

“It can be done though, look at the elections 2018 and then again…”

“Stop right now, my question is why would you need to make the change because administration after administration – civilian (barring none of the policies implemented by the three major political parties) as well as the military…”

“I get you, but going back to the international community it is defined more in terms of the UNSC rather than the general assembly.”

“Whatever do you mean?”

“Well the US certainly has the veto power, and it takes along Israel though many academics in the US claim that Israel is the tail that wags the dog.”

“And the Europeans?”

“Well as you know there are alpha dogs, then there are beta dogs followed by gamma and…”

“Gotcha so you would define community as in international community where you have alpha, beta, gamma, delta right up to omegas, the very last alphabet.”

“You know as a Pakistani I am all for ain. Perhaps we need to tell the international community to follow their spiritual guide.”

“Don’t be facetious.”
