KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that the working of Sindh Board of Revenue (SRB) is being brought on modern lines not only to facilitate the people but also to ensure protection to their record of rights and raise the government revenue.

This he said while presiding over a meeting to review the performance of the SRB, especially with reference to its tax collection and pace of implementation on its automation project here on Monday.

The Chief Minister further said that the PPP government had launched the project of Land Administration of Revenue Management Information System (LARMIS) within the SRB, at a cost of Rs 4305.76 million at the end of year 2011 under the instruction of then president Asif All Zardari.

This project would be completed by December, 2014 with a view to computerise land record in the form of central database connected with all districts to improve public services deliveries.

He said that under the LARMIS revenue services centre was being set up at each district Headquarters, where other co-related organisations such as Excise & Taxation Department would also be provided to facilitate the people under one roof.

The chief minister was informed that land revenue record of all 29 districts of Sindh comprising approximately 15 million pages has been scanned, indexed and provided to data entry firms, whereas construction of centres for services delivery of LARMIS was in progress in all districts and the work at Hyderabad, Jamshoro and Tando Muhammad Khan had been completed.

The chief minister Sindh directed the Deputy Commissioners of Sindh to verify all entries computerised till date and also to call objections from the public before finalising the record of rights.

He said that the computerisation of record of rights; administrative reforms and capacity building of Human Resources were the main objectives of this project.

He said, “We have fixed the revenue collection target of Rs 120 billion for this year and hopefully our organisation will meet this target easily”. Syed Qaim Ali Shah directed the officers to review the law for removal of encroachments from the government land and asked them to make it more simple and effective.

He also directed the officers to prepare draft for New Land Grant Policy with consultation of revenue and legal experts.—APP
