ISLAMABAD: Dr Tanveer Zamani, the self-proclaimed president of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), USA chapter, on Monday categorically rejected the rumours about her marriage with the former president Asif Ali Zardari.

Addressing a press conference here at the National Press Club, she said that some people with vested interests have been spreading the rumour of her marriage with Zardari as they want to create a rift in the Zardari family and the PPP top leadership.

“I was married to Tahsin Javed Siddiqui and rumours of my marriage with Zardari are being spread to make Bilawal quarrel with his father,” she said, adding: “My relationship with Zardari is only that of a leader and a brother.”

She said that she was mother of four and the rumours were devastating her family life. “The rumour-mongers should at least think about my children and in-laws,” she said.

Crticising the statements made by PPP leaders against her, Zamani said, “I sacrificed my name to maintain the leader’s credibility as these rumours would have resulted in the party chairman’s resignation from his post.”

She alleged that instead of appreciating her efforts the party’s leaders accused her of spreading rumours of her marriage with the former president.

Earlier, the PPP rejected rumours of former president Zardari’s marriage to Zamani through a statement. The party also said that Zamani has got no official post in the party; therefore the workers and media should not take her seriously.

“A totally wrong impression is also sought to be created in the media interviews that former president Asif Ali Zardari has married this woman,” Senator Farhatullah Babar said in a statement to media.

Babar also accused Zamani of ‘deliberately’ spreading rumours about her marriage with Zardari. “She has avoided answers to pointed questions and has spoken with a double tongue,” he said.

Dr Zamani has been in the news for the last four years for her alleged marriage with the former president Zardari. The PPP leadership had, however, never bothered to deny the rumours.

She lives in the United States and is currently visiting Pakistan. She has also been to mausoleums of late Benazir Bhutto and Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in Larkana, Ghari Khuda Buksh and offered Fateha there.

In her numerous television interviews, she said that shed is a diehard worker of the PPP and want to carry forward agenda and motto of the late Benazir Bhutto and Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
