PESHAWAR: After holding a successful negotiation with the district administration, local transporters’ association has agreed to charge fares as per the old fare list till July 30, 2015.

The decision was taken in a meeting regarding a crackdown against transporters for fleecing commuters on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr. The meeting presided by Deputy Commissioner Peshawar, Riaz Khan Mehsud was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Osama Ahmad Warriach, Assistant Commissioner Mumtaz Ahmad, Secretary, Regional Transport Authority (RTA), Niamatullah Khan and a 30-member delegation of transporters.

The Deputy Commissioner while expressing concern over fleecing commuters and creating artificial price-hike on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr asked the transporters for charging fares on the basis of official list.

The meeting was followed by formal round of negotiations between transporters’ association and district administration.

On this occasion, the Deputy Commissioner issued directives for the resolution of some problems faced by the transporters. On which the transporters agreed for giving relief to the people and charging fares on the basis of officially fixed list.

Meanwhile, district administration continued the crackdown against transporters for violating official fare list and fleecing commuters on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr.
