Karachi: The Met Office on Thursday warned about a severe weather system is expected to unleash glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) in Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral in the next 3 to 4 days.

It said the glacial outburst flood is likely to strike at Pakistan Meteorological Department’s pilot GLOP sites including Bagrot, Bindogol and Golain valleys. It also asked the local communities to remain alert and the authorities should take precautionary measures.

It said that the seasonal low was over northwest of Balochistan at present. A well marked low pressure system was over north Rajasthan (India) is weakening gradually during next 24-hour and under the influence of this low pressure, the monsoon currents are penetrating in the central parts of the country. Some deflected monsoon currents are also penetrating in Kashmir and adjoining areas and likely to continue in the coming days, it added.

Rain-thundershower is expected at scattered places in Kashmir, Islamabad, Malakand, Mardan, Hazara, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, Multan, D G Khan, Zhob, Sibbi, Nasirabad divisions, while at isolated places in Fata, Peshawar, Kohat, Bannu, D I Khan, Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabad and Sukkur divisions in the next 24 hours.

Khanpur received maximum 124mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, Dhali 64mm, Rahim Yar Khan 32mm, Parachinar 20mm, Nagarparker 14mm, Barkhan 11mm and Dadu 9mm. Nokkundi was recorded with highest 43 degrees Celsius followed by Dalbandin 42, Turbat 41 and Chillas 40.

Partly cloudy to a complete cloudy and windy weather with chances of light rain and drizzle has been forecast for Karachi in the next 24 hours. Temperature is expected to soar up to 34 degrees with maximum 75 percent humidity.

Rain/thunderstorm is likely to hit at isolated places in Sukkur division. Light rain and drizzle may fall in coastal parts of Sindh.
