KARACHI: Commissioner of Karachi, Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui chairing a meeting Tuesday to review availability of potable water appreciated marked improvement in the situation, as compared to recent past. He, however, directed the concerned officials to arrange provision for water tankers in few of the areas that still faced with deficiency due to non existent or faulty pipe lines.

“People of these areas mainly un-regularized due to unchecked population must be properly informed about the facility,” he said.

The meeting that was also attended by deputy commissioners, as well as executive and chief engineers of KWSB from each of the district decided that water scarcity in any part of the metropolis would be handled as an emergency situation.

It must be handled on urgent basis, said the Karachi Commissioner who on the occasion was also accompanied by Additional Commissioner, Karachi (one) Javed Sibghatullah. He urged the DCs and KWSB engineers to hold regular meetings in their respective district and ensure strict monitoring of situation regarding public accessibility to potable water.

Chief Engineer, KWSB for district East, Majid Siddiqui informed the meeting that water supply situation has significantly improved, during past two weeks, in different parts of Gulshan e Iqbal and Gulistan e Jauhar, Khudadad Colony, Hyderabad Colony and certain other areas of Jamshed Town.

Chief Engineer for district West, Muhammad Owais Malik said shortage witnessed till 15 days again in Orangi Town particularly in Gulistan e Bihar, Ghaziabad, Faqir Colony, Zia Colony, Urdu Chowk and Gulshan e Zia has been efficiently addressed. Situation, he said is fast improving in sector 5-D and 5-J in Baldia Town and Saidabad. Whereas, he said all necessary measures have been adopted to ensure regular water supply to Mauripur, Gulbai and PIDC in Gadap Town; Frontier Colony, Banaras, Metrovile and Hijrat Colony in SITE.

Town as well as those covered under Lyari Settlement Project and Yousuf Goth.

Chief Engineer Korangi, Faheem Siddiqui said water supply situation has markedly improved in Bilal Town and slums (katchi abadis) located next to Korangi number two and two and a half.—APP
