LAHORE: Hundreds of thousands of Intermediate (part-I) students of Lahore, Gujranwala, Multan, Boards of Intermediate and Secondary education have been taking to streets for past three days against 'wrong marking' of their papers and demanded remarking.

The students have pinpointed 'wrong marking' in Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Economics, saying never in the past such a large number of students in one exam have been affected by wrong marking. The parents of the students have demanded stern action against the concerned officials of education department.

Meanwhile Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has constituted a four members committee to review complaints / concerns of students regarding Intermediate Part-1 examination results declared by Board of Intermediate and Secondary Educations.

Additional Chief Secretary Shumail Ahmed Khawaja is the Convener of the committee while Chairman Chief Minister's Inspection Team is its Co-Convener. A nominee of Punjab Information Technology Board and a person co-opted by the committee are its members.

The committee examining the system for marking of examination papers/tabulation of results in correct manner and various counter checks to ensure a fair/correct marking of examination papers and preparation of results. The committee will also examine implementation of existing rules/policies for marking of examination papers/tabulation of results by eight BISEs and report any deviation/violation thereof on the part of concerned officers/examiners etc of BISE. Clear responsibility will accordingly be fixed in this regard. The committee will recommend further safeguards/ measures to improve the system of marking of examination papers/tabulation of results and submit its report to Chief Minister within four days.

Meanwhile Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has taken notice of the protest staged by the students with regard to first year examination of intermediate. He has directed the secretary Higher Education to thoroughly probe the matter and submit a report.
