KARACHI: Pakistan’s import of telecom items declined by 5 percent to $660.116 million in July-Dec 2016, official figures show.

The decline in telecom goods import reached $34.381 million in the first half of this fiscal year as compared to their import of $694.497 million in July-Dec 2016, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics says.

In Dec 2016, import of telecom goods however shot up by 35 percent or $42.593 million to $166.026 million from $123.433 million in Dec 2015.

Import of mobile phones slumped by 12.22 percent or $45.83 million to $329.234 million in July-Dec 2017 from $375.064 million in July-Dec 2016. Cellular handsets import went down by 3.29 percent or $2.145 million to $65.171 million in Dec 2016 from $67.316 million in Dec 2015.
