LAHORE: Punjab Centre for South Asian Studies, University of the Punjab, Lahore in collaboration with Sir Ganga Ram Heritage Foundation, Lahore, organised a 10th International Seminar of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar Day on “Dr B R Ambedkar’s Role to Empower Women”. Social Activist from Ahmadabad, India Manjula Pradeep, Dr Parmod Kumar & Dr Anu Mehra from University of Delhi, India, Mangeshraj Dahiwale from University of Pune, India, Ex-VC of Sargodha University Dr Muhammad Akram Choudhary, Director CSAS Prof Dr Umbreen Javaid, faculty members, MPhil/PhD scholars and a large of students were present on the occasion.

Manjula Paradeep Hotilal, Social Activist, Ahmadabad, India said Ambedkar was the most educated person of his age. She said where ever there was oppression and discrimination, his philosophy of liberty, equality and fraternity was relevant. She said he influenced a wide range of population all over the world. She said that he brought a great radical change without shedding a single drop of blood.

University of IGNOU Delhi’s Dr Parmod Kumar said Dr Ambedkar emphasized on equal wages for female labour, equal rights of education and right to own property for women. Dr Anu Mehra from University of Delhi said Dr Ambedkar himself had to face discrimination.

Dr Ambedkar formed the constitution of India and in that constitution; he legislated to empower women and to grant many rights to strengthen their role in society.
