RECORDER REPORT

LAHORE: The consumers of Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) have criticized the company for using illegal tactics of over billing.

They said the sub-divisional offices of LESCO were delaying bills to consumers for a month and adding extra taxes in combined bills of two months. The tariff slab also enters the highest level with increase in units of two months’ bill, they added.

One consumer said he had received a negative bill for the month of June but the bill he received for the month of July was carrying a notional amount for the month of June as well. “My electricity bill is Rs46,000 with a fine of Rs4000 in case of late payment just because of the illegal tactic used by the LESCO staff.”

When asked that did he check with the LESCO why he was not billed for the month of June, he said the relevant staff told him that it was due to negligence of the meter reader. He did not record reading for the month of June therefore the company had no option but to send him a negative bill. “Now the staff is of the view that taking action against the meter reader will not benefit him in any manner,” he added.
