ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Marriyum Aurangzeb said on Friday that all institutions should encourage and support supremacy of law and Constitution.

Speaking at an event, the minister said that it is unfortunate that the country is going to complete its 70-year but there is not a single elected prime minister in history that completed the term.

She said the concept of respecting the Constitution and people’s mandate demands respect for the Parliament.

She urged that students of politics should think why elected assemblies from time to time were dissolved, adding that the Parliament is the most independent institution of the country as it is established through the votes of people.

She also urged the participants of the event to study Constitution, as without knowing it they would not become aware of their rights and laws related to them.

She said it is the Parliament which gives right to information, right to education, right to due process and right to fair trial by amending the Constitution.

“Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif advanced democratization in the country,” she said. All constitutional institutions should respect the Parliament by accepting the people’s mandate, the minister added. “We want the rule of masses through democracy,” she added.

Marriyum regretted that throughout the history of Pakistan, the Parliament remained the most insecure out of all institutions.

She said Nawaz Sharif presented himself for accountability and there is no proved charge of corruption against him. The minister claimed that the country made all-round progress during the last four years.

Marriyum Aurangzeb maintained that the government aspires to build Pakistan based on the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
