LAHORE: Expressing disappointment over poor performance of cops, Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Arif Nawaz Khan has given one month ultimatum to District Police Officers (DPOs) of Okara, DG Khan and Rahim Yar Khan to improve their performance or get ready for facing consequences.

While addressing a video-link conference of RPOs and DPOs at the Central Police Office (CPO) on Tuesday, the IGP directed the high-ranking officers to increase security measures for foreigners, especially Chinese inhabitants, living in the province by devising a comprehensive security plan under their supervision. He urged the police officers to utilize every available resource in hunting down suspects wanted by the law enforcers in a various cases of murders, kidnappings, dacoities, kidnappings for ransom and other serious crimes and a progress report in this regard also be submitted to the CPO after a week.

The police chief further directed to intensify security of worship places of minorities, educational institutes, especially co-educational institutions and other sensitive places. The incidents of police torture during custody or murders will not be tolerated at any cost, the IG warned.

IG Arif said the senior police officers should immediately constitute some teams to implement a strict ban on the Punjab Sound Systems (Regulation) Act, 2015, in the province.

During the meeting, all police officers briefed the IG Police about their progress in their regions or districts and what measures they have taken against the anti-social elements or wanted criminals.

The IGP after listening briefings from the cops praised the performance of DPOs Mianwali and Multan. He told the participants to remain in contact with officials of the Punjab Information and Technology Board (PITB) through which they would be able to ensure better monitoring at Front Desks and Khidmat Centres, which were established for the facilitation of the people by and large.
