KARACHI: Lauding Prime Minister’s efforts to mitigate conflict between SSGC and K-Electric, Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar asked KE on Monday to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the city during summer season and particularly in the holy month of Ramazan.

“Due to negligence of K-Electric, Karachiites suffer from hours-long power outages in this sweltering season,” he said, speaking at a press conference at his office, here. Parliamentary leader at the City Council Aslam Shah Afredi, chairman legal affairs committee Arif Khan Advocate and chairman finance committee Nadeem Hidayat Hashmi were also present.

Mayor further said that industrialists are forced to shutdown their manufacturing units due to frequent power cuts, while the power utility is least bothered to generate additional power from its plants to meet the growing electricity demands of the city.

“It will be tantamount to gross injustice with Karachi, if its electricity issue isn’t resolved despite Prime Minister’s clear directives to the SSGC and KE,” he said. Mayor hailed PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for taking notice of the city’s electricity issue and his directives to the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) to provide (190mmcfd) required gas to KE to run its gas-based plants.
