RECORDER REPORT

ISLAMABAD: The Appellate Tribunal for NA-53 Wednesday cleared Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s nomination papers to contest upcoming polls from Islamabad’s NA-53 constituency.

Khan personally appeared before Justice Kayani to fill in the incomplete Clause ‘N’ of the affidavit. He mentioned that his philanthropic work such as the establishment of Shaukat Khanum Hospital and his quest to create awareness about fundamental rights may be treated as contribution towards his previous constituents.

The same tribunal on June 26 had accepted the nomination papers of former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, former Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sardar Mehtab Abbasi and PTI-G leader Ayesha Gulalai for general election 2018.

Khan said in the appeal that his nomination papers scrutinized on June 19 were rejected on weak grounds. The appeal said that Khan heads the PTI which is the largest political party and is waging a struggle for provision of basic rights to the people of Pakistan.

The appeal also mentioned that Khan had neither concealed the facts nor misstated anything in nomination papers thus rejection of his nomination papers by the returning officer was an unjust decision and deserved to be set aside in the interest of justice.
