ISLAMABAD: Two Commodores namely Muhammad Zubair Shafique and Muhammad Shafique have been promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral with immediate effect.

Rear Admiral Muhammad Zubair Shafique was commissioned in Operations branch of Pakistan Navy in 1988. He has vast experience of holding various command and staff appointments. His Command appointments include Command of Missile Boat PNS JALALAT, Commanding Officer PNS TIPPU SULTAN and Commissioning Commanding Officer of PNS SAIF F-22P Frigate. His Staff appointments include Captain Training at Pakistan Naval Academy, Director Ops Analysis Cell at US NAVCENT, BAHRAIN, Chief Staff Officer to Commander Pakistan Fleet and Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Operations) at Naval Headquarters. Presently he is serving as Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Special Warfare & Marines) at NHQ. He is a graduate of Pakistan Navy War College Lahore, National Defence University Islamabad and Royal College of Defence Studies UK. In recognition of his meritorious services, the Admiral was awarded Tamgha-e-Imtiaz Military and Sitara-e-Imtiaz Military.

Rear Admiral Muhammad Shafique was commissioned in Operations Branch of Pakistan Navy in 1987. He has served onboard various PN Ships and Submarines holding diverse operational assignments including command of Agosta 90B submarine (PNS/M KHALID) and Commander of the 5th Submarine Squadron. His important staff appointments include Senior Staff Officer at HQ COMSUBS and Director Projects Plans at Naval Headquarters. Presently, he is serving as Deputy Chief Project Director (Plans) at Naval Headquarters.

He has also served as Naval and Air Attaché of Pakistan to Germany. He is a graduate of PN War College Lahore, National Defence University (NDU) Islamabad and Command and General Staff College Philippines. In recognition of his meritorious services, he was awarded Tamgha-e-Imtiaz Military and Sitara-e-Imtiaz Military.—PR
