RECORDER REPORT

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Friday summoned the Director General of Punjab Mass Transit Authority to explain delay in payment against acquisition of Miani Sahib Graveyard’s land for the project of Metro Bus Service.

A local commission filed its report before the court revealing that over one kanal land of the graveyard had been illegally occupied by office of Wapda/Lesco since 1986.

The court directed the Lesco to vacate the land of Miani Sahib Graveyard immediately and to pay rent to its committee for the whole period of the occupation.

Lesco Chief Wajid Kazmi, present in the court, gave an undertaking for the compliance of the order. The commission’s report further revealed that the government had not paid the money to the graveyard committee against land acquired for the metro bus project.

The court expressed concern over inordinate delay in the payment and directed the mass transit’s DG to appear in person on December 19 and explain the reasons for delay.
