LAHORE: University of Management and Technology’s Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance held an international conference on Islamic Economics, Finance and Banking here on Friday.

Renowned scholars, economists, intellectuals, researchers and experts including Rector UMT professor Dr. Hasan Sohaib Murad, Professor Khurshid Ahmad, Director General UMT Abid HK Sherwani, Javaid Bhatti Regional Head Central Zone State Bank of Pakistan , Dr Rukhsana Kaleem dean Institute of Islamic Banking UMT, Mehmood Shah, Director Institute of Islamic Banking UMT, Justice Khalil Ur Rehman, Chairman Shariah Board Pakistan, Sheikh Essam Muhammad Ishaq, Shariah Advisor to Bahrain Development Bank, Dr. Monzer Kahf (Qatar), Dr. Maliah Sulaiman (Malaysia), media personalities and government representatives participated in global forum.

Senator Prof Khurshid Ahmad said that global market for Islamic Banking and Finance has grown significantly over the years and this testifies to the strength and vitality of Islamic principles. He talked in detail about the successes, failures, hope and risks of Islamic Banking.

Javaid Bhatti Regional Head Central Zone State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) appreciated the UMT for organizing global forum. He said that we are finding best solution for Islamic economics and baking to replacing current banking system with Islamic banking system.

Rector UMT Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad said that the objective of this conference is to provide a platform which will connect practitioners, professionals, religious scholars and Ulema and those involved in teaching and research. This is a platform of civil society where people who have been the greatest driver of Islamic banking will gain further insight into the pace and progress of Islamic banking and finance.

Speakers also highlighted the growing importance of Islamic Banking System and its implementation in the current scenario. They said that Islamic Banking should be highly promoted because it is very close to human nature and promotes good society.

Around 50 research papers were presented on Islamic Economics, Finance and Banking.
